Waiheke Island wedding
Some people are planners when it comes to what to do with their lives. Count me in that contingent.
Some get engaged, plan a wedding two years out, and then manage to carry it all out according to the schedule.
My nephew and his fiancée are that type, so I had no excuses for not turning up. Of course, I wanted to go.
But visiting Auckland is an expedition from the South Island. I took my car and loaded it with tramping gear as a secondary objective for afterwards.
I had a few days in Wellington as a backup plan, just in case the ferries had been cancelled. Fortunately, they weren’t, so that time was spent meandering my way up the island.
Staying with friends in Havelock North, then in Hamilton.
Then Diana, Zac, and I congregated in Mt Eden, before getting a Saturday morning ferry for the Sunday wedding.
After the austerity of my own life, it was instructive to see what Aucklanders do and to take part in the Waiheke Island lifestyle.
I volunteered to pay for the taxis, which was easy. They were all $45, and we had a few rides.
The wedding was emotional and most enjoyable. Weddings are a rare event for me, and I’m pleased I went to this one.
A very happy couple and crowd.
