Fringed Hill
Now Week 50 since I tore my Achilles tendon.
They say it takes a year to heal properly, so not long to go. It’s been a long return.
Things went well until June on the rehab front. I had got to 15,000 steps a day, and much of that was doing plenty of climbing, albeit on concrete or asphalt. I felt that was real progress.
Then, I developed some health issues, including insomnia, and my steps fell back. July average 8300, then August down to 6300.
That was the fewest since my injury and being in a cast or Moonboot.
The step numbers have rebounded to some extent, but the hills have been dropped for a while. A knee injury from too much kneeling with my deck construction slowed rehab.
My test for full leg recovery was an ability to go up Fringed Hill, an almost 800 metre climb. Then, however, I thought after rather than a day trip, I could camp up there overnight.
A micro-adventure.
However, work intervened, and some weekends were involved.
I committed to completing the deck. And many of the days I had free, well, it rained. It’s been relatively muggy this spring.
I’m still not up there, and I’m already into November.
