Major progress TNZ
I’ve concentrated much of my life in the last six weeks on getting Tramping New Zealand modernised.
The top of the page “Hero” slider proved the easier aspect to date, probably because I made the decision to eliminate captions on each image. With the 2010 Showcase slider, I had hidden captions that worked well on a desktop or laptop screen. This is too fiddly to operate with a finger on a phone screen, and it was a no-brainer to ditch.
The coding to produce the GLightbox pop-up slideshow took a while to finesse, but styling the captions proved an issue. With a single full-width image and a fixed-width, multi-line caption beneath, it now works well.
The two biggest issues remain:
How to code the website menu so that it works much better on a phone, and consequently changing it for desktops.
Modernising the website landing page, which hasn’t really changed in 13 years.
These are two big conceptual challenges for my self-taught coding brain, and I’m going to need a little extra help from my new best friend Gem.
