Pumpkins

Returning after 27 days away was a shock.

I’d abandon ship in a hurry after sleeping in on the day I left.

The place was in disarray, somewhat. I added to it by strewing my belongings around, some to dry out properly.

The garden was similar, with the summer’s veggie growth coming to an end.

I’d harvested plenty of zucchini and spinach over the summer, but that had ended.

My three pumpkin plants had taken over the garden and had now died back with the cooler weather.

Last year, I had a crop of three medium-sized pumpkins.

This harvest was seven large pumpkins, and then I found another two in the foliage.

I just have to work out what to do with them for the winter.

I suspect there’ll be plenty of pumpkin soup frozen.
