Decking completion

In my inventory of materials, 500 stainless steel decking screws were needed. Each of these needed to be drilled into the timber to avoid splitting.

Oh, I seem to be missing one plank, so that the deck would extend past the planter box.

And I needed to think about the two exposed edges.

Make that three more long lengths in total.

It would be super disappointing to have the edges in a multitude of short lengths when everything else was jointless.

Great surprise when I went back to Blacks Fasteners, they had exactly what I needed.

But here’s the thing.

When you buy 500 decking screws, you are almost guaranteed to require 550, and so it proved to be.

I needed 50 more.

Back to Blacks, the cheap hardware supplier, and they agreed it was inevitable.

So, three weeks later, I finally finished construction.

Confession. I’d actually needed 53, so there are three square drive galvanised screws to hold the last planks down, but I’m happy enough.

It isn’t perfect.

I don’t mind those little quirks, rather than obsess about them.
