Landscaping the frontyard

After six months of looking like a battlefield, work has been done on my front yard.

Six months ago, the 30-year-old pine bark mulch had turned into beautiful soil and was a weed nursery. Time for a rethink.

The landscaping solution here is to lay chunky stones over weedmat, so I got to work.

I half-laid the weed mat before I was laid up with my Achilles tendon injury. That stopped progress, and as summer progressed, the black weed mat started to look ugly, particularly as the weeds started to take over.

Now past the first six-month period of recovery, there was no excuse for inaction.

My neighbour, Raymond, suggested that I get the stones from the quarry rather than a reseller, so that saved $400 in cost, despite a $190 delivery fee.

I laid new weed mat over the top, planted some native vegetation, and arranged for three tons of beige-coloured stones to be dumped on my driveway.

That was all shifted by shovel and brute strength over the last week. It’s a great way to interact with the people wandering past the activity.

Verdict?

Looks much better.

Now I just need to wait for the plants to mature.
