Lights on
The biennial Nelson light show has been and gone.
I’ve gone to previous versions and been delighted. The illuminated white plastic full-size moas were amazing, amongst other memorable constructions. 50,000 people visited over the 10 days, and that’s with around 70,000 people in the area. Effort was put in by an enthusiastic bunch of creative light designers.
This year was different. The weather was appalling, raining heavily over the weekend, and the installations were fewer and less ambitious. Crowds were thin.
The laser show inside the cathedral was the crowdpleaser, but left me cold. Light streamed out the door and mixed with shadows of people entering the cathedral. That was the best sight on offer.
Oh well, only two years until the next one.
